Furniture edge banding adhesive is a kind of adhesive specially used for man-made panel edge banding, which is a solvent-free thermoplastic adhesive.
Types of furniture edge banding adhesives
Furniture edge banding adhesive can be divided into three categories according to different base materials:
EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) base hot melt adhesive, this hot melt adhesive can be divided into two categories: filler and no filler. Using EVA as the base material is the most common furniture edge banding adhesive production technology, and its main limitation is poor heat resistance. The ambient temperature of panel furniture with EVA hot melt adhesive sealing edge should not be higher than 120 °C;
POL YAMIDE (polyamide) base hot melt adhesive, this hot melt adhesive has good heat resistance and fast curing characteristics, the main disadvantage is expensive.
HMPU (polyurethane) base hot melt adhesive, it is the best performance of the hot melt adhesive, is the guarantee of high-quality sheet edge banding. It is expensive and requires special methods of use.

1. The viscosity of furniture edge banding adhesive
The viscosity of furniture edge banding adhesive does not directly reflect the performance of the adhesive. In general, the higher the viscosity of furniture edge banding adhesive, the better its initial adhesion strength, but the worse the coating performance. Low-viscosity hot melt adhesives have less adhesive and better wetting performance. Some hot melt adhesives with low viscosity and fast curing speed may also have high initial tack strength.
2. The density of furniture edge banding adhesive
The density of furniture edge banding adhesive is generally 0.95-1.6g/cm3, and its density depends on the amount of filler.
2. Softening point and use temperature of furniture edge banding adhesive
The softening point is an indicator of the heat resistance of the furniture edge banding adhesive, the higher the softening point, the less likely it is to melt the furniture edge banding adhesive. At the same time, the softening point is also an important aspect of measuring the temperature resistance of panel furniture.
3. The opening time of furniture edge banding adhesive and the feeding speed of the edge banding machine
Furniture edge banding adhesive is widely used in the market because it does not require solvents, water resistance, environmental protection and other characteristics.
Choose the furniture edge banding adhesive method
First, the color requirements of the adhesive should be different. If the adhesive itself does not have special requirements for color, it is recommended to use yellow hot melt adhesive, in general, yellow hot melt adhesive is better viscosity than white.
Second, the surface treatment of the adhesion. The surface treatment of furniture edge banding adhesive is not as strict as that of other adhesives, but the dust and oil on the surface of the adhesive should also be properly treated to make the hot melt adhesive better play the bonding effect.
3. Operation time. Fast work is a feature of hot melt adhesives. The operation time of hot melt adhesive is generally about 15 seconds, with the wide application of modern production methods - assembly lines, the operation time requirements for hot melt adhesive are getting shorter and shorter, such as book binding and speaker manufacturing The operation time of hot melt adhesive requires about 5 seconds.
4. Temperature resistance. Hot melt adhesives are sensitive to temperature. When the temperature reaches a certain level, the hot melt adhesive begins to soften, and below a certain temperature, the hot melt adhesive will become brittle, so the choice of hot melt adhesive must fully consider the temperature change of the environment where the product is located.
5. Stickiness. The viscosity of hot melt edge banding adhesive is divided into early viscosity and late viscosity. Only when the early viscosity and the late viscosity are consistent can the hot melt adhesive and the adhered object remain stable. In the production process of hot melt adhesive, it should be guaranteed to have oxidation, halogen resistance, acid and alkali resistance and plasticity. The viscosity of the hot melt adhesive is also different depending on the material of the adhesion, so different hot melt adhesives should be selected according to different materials.
